WE LOVE OVERNIGHT TRAINS! Bangkok to Chiang Mai Thailand

Tonight we leave Bangkok (that went by quickly) and head North to Chiang Mai. We’re catching the overnight train, because we LOVE train travel (never thought we’d say that before starting this trip!). Ever since we did the Trans Siberian we have missed long haul train journeys – they are comfortable, give you time to relax and you can can see the countryside.

We’re so excited to be in Chiang Mai, we’ve heard great things about this city and we can’t wait to explore here!

We said goodbye to our jobs, sold all our belongings, and left Australia on a one-way ticket to Shanghai with just each other and our backpacks! We plan to travel the world for a year, see as much as possible, meet as many people as we can, and most importantly MAKE OUR MONEY LAST!

When we left Australia we decided to make travel vlogs to share our journey with our friends and family back home. We also love watching other travel vloggers on YouTube, in particular Kara and Nate, The Endless Adventure, Way Away, and Flying The Nest.

If you enjoyed this video please SUBSCRIBE so you don’t miss our new videos as they’re released. We also love it when you leave us a COMMENT! 🙂

  1. Some ppl of thai don't know about that sleeper train class we use bus instead cheaper and faster

  2. I would not be able to sleep if they turn off the lights because I am scared that someone will rob me. Can you imagine if the whole cabin is in the dark ?

  3. I had taken that train twice in May 1918 and the reason that they left the lights on because of the security reason. In the past passengers do get robed quite often in the sleeping car. Since they introduce, left the lights on plus police to guard the train such incident is reduced to almost nil.

  4. Nothing beats cheap, old nonA/C cars on that trip. You can open windows, watch countryside, greet station masters… 🙂 but there is less and less of them…

  5. For safety issue, unfortunately they need to turn the light on on all cabin and there are the CCTVs monitoring in the cabins too. If you want the room to be dark then you need to buy the First Class ticket ( can accommodate 2 passengers in 1 room) so you can turn off the light in your room while sleeping.

  6. They are turn on the light becos for safety.
For 1st class private room. the cabin attendant always said please keep the door locked.

  7. I can't wait to take the train next time I'm there, I booked too late and it was full when I was going from Chiang Mai to Bangkok so I got stuck on an overnight bus that was a bit miserable. The train looks amazing and I loved Chiang Mai and Pai, especially Pai it was like a cute little hippie village with so much to do.

  8. 2:12 That thing next to the toilet is actually to clean the toilet and the floors. It's like what we would have in the shower, but in this case used slightly differently. Only for staff though, so don't tough that thing haha. Also regular houses in Thailand have this feature.

5:25 The lights stay on so you won't have anyone falling, grabbing the wrong things or other wise causing possible accidents.

  9. Correct, in 2nd class sleeper where you were there is no privacy, so lights stay on for security. ist class sleeper you have a private cabin for 2, or you can pay a little extra and have it for 1 person.

  10. I'm currently in Chiang Mai. It's a beautiful city. Don't forget the lantern festival in November! Have fun!

  11. We did this train to when we were in Thailand 🇹🇭 haha we went el cheapo though on the old train! Your train looked really nice though! I (Sally) slept on the top bunk and couldn’t sleep all night because of the bright lights! It was awful 😭 Hahaha we feel you April about walking into the bathroom with a camera… we got some weird looks whilst doing the trains across Russia 😂😂

  12. Wonderful train interior, a well thought-out design. They only have to arrange something for those suffering from light (I sleep easily with the light on, at home even leave it on at night on purpose, when feeling bad).
    The landscape resembles Siberia.

  13. The steward made the bed very fast. I think they leave the lights on for safety for passengers. Looked very comfortable.

  14. Your video is very nice and creative, I like it and like and subscribe hope you will visit your channel, you will also subscribe and like to support yourself.

  15. Hopefully Tim pulled down the baseball cap over his eyes other option is put put your head in a black tshirt and roll it the material over your eyes. But its strange because you can always FEEL the light regardless.
